Change your self-talk to boost your confidence

Have you ever heard the saying that if the voice in your head had a body, you would have buried that body a long time ago?

I laugh every time I think about that saying when I wake up in the morning and all I hear is the constant voice reminding me of

…the things that I need to do

…the things I haven't done yet

…the things that I’m never going to do, and so on.

The person you speak to the most is yourself. That is some truth.

When you can learn to speak to yourself in a way that is the most loving, most respectful, most optimistic and supportive, THAT is when you learn how to speak to others in the same voice.

QUICKLY CHANGE YOUR INNER DIALOGUE TODAY

  1. Really hear yourself.

Become deeply committed to understanding the narrative in your own mind - how the words you say to yourself and the way you hear those words impacts:

  • the way you see the world

  • how you treat other people

  • the choices you make - and don't make.

We really are what we believe we are, and the power in that truth is that we get to pause. We get to hear the stories we’re telling ourselves about ourselves and then decide if and how we want to rewrite that narrative.

It is absolutely life, career, and business-changing to gain a conscious understanding of how our personality traits, habits and abilities affect us and our interactions with others. And, it all starts with how we see and speak to ourselves.

2. Actively change your language.

  • Start with “I am”.

  • Choose one word that describes who, how or what you intend to be today.

  • Speak it out loud and feel what it means to embody that word. (I often tell myself that I am “Nearly 6 feet of Puerto-Rican Amazonian Awesomeness!” Yup!)

  • Repeat the dialogue loudly (in your mind). Breathe.

  • And - like a light that rises up from the earth - feel this new definition of you rooting you into the earth. You are anchored; strong.

  • Feel it holding you steady and standing you up taller or expanding you into a bigger space.

  • Feel it lengthening your spine vertebrae by vertebrae and rising up through your body…into your organs, over your skin and up through the top of your head and out through every hair you have.

  • Feel how - in this moment - you are what you say you are.

See it. Speak it. Become it…and watch how the act of physically, mentally and emotionally embodying that attribute physically transforms the conversations and outcomes you get today.

Oh - and don’t take my word for it…this is actually based on data and research. Learn more here.

The world is waiting to hear how you’re planning to show up today, my friend. Get out there and shine.
